AFCON 2025: Morocco Set to Host Africa’s Biggest Football Festival

The countdown is on! The 35th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will take place in Morocco from 21 December 2025 to 18 January 2026, marking a historic moment for African football. For the first time, the tournament will be played during the festive season, promising a unique blend of sport and celebration.
Why Morocco?
Morocco was awarded hosting rights after Guinea was stripped
due to infrastructure delays. This decision aligns perfectly with Morocco’s
ambitious plans to showcase its world-class stadiums and organizational
capacity ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which the country will co-host.
Tournament Format
24 Teams divided into 6 groups.
Group Stage: 21–31 December.
Knockouts: Round of 16 (3–6 Jan), Quarter-finals (9–10 Jan),
Semi-finals (14 Jan), Final (18 Jan).
Opening Match: Morocco vs Comoros at Rabat’s Prince Moulay
Abdellah Stadium.
Nine stadiums across six cities will host the matches:
Casablanca – Stade
Mohammed V
Tangier – Ibn
Batouta Stadium
Marrakech, Agadir, and Fès
will also welcome fans with upgraded facilities.
